The Best Design Resources You’ll Actually Use

Designers spend a lot of time scouring the far corners of the web for the perfect stock photo or typeface that will make a project pop.  And when you’re strapped for time and have a small budget, you need all of the affordable resources you can get.  We’ve asked our own design team for their favorite sites to get design goodies so that you can make your next project that much better.

Creative Market

Creative Market offers a variety of creative assets, from photos to icons and illustrations to website themes, all from independent designers around the world.  In addition to their paid resources, they offer great free goodies every week.  It’s an awesome way to spread the work of fellow designers.

Freebbble

Dribbble, the design showcase and job board, has been an invaluable tool for creatives looking to share their projects and catch the eye of companies like Google and Spotify.  The platform also has its own design resource site, Freebbble, which offers free design elements like text styles, app landing pages, and more.

Unsplash

Stock photography has upped its game a lot in the past several years, and Unsplash is one of the best resources out there for high-quality free photos.  Attribution is not required, but they suggest giving credit to the photographer (and they provide each photog’s Instagram handle to make it easy to tag them).

Free Design Resources

This site offers some great freebies, including icons, mockups, and typefaces, from designers and artists around the world.  Most resources on the site are free for commercial use and modification, which is always a bonus.

Structural Graphics

For the best in dimensional printing, Structural Graphics is our go-to.  Traditional print marketing can often be less than exciting, but Structural Graphics helps make things like direct mail pieces pop.  They print, assemble, and mail your project, and do everything from luxury and promotional packaging to AR printed pieces to the aforementioned direct mail pieces.

Graphic Burger

Another designer-friendly resource, Graphic Burger’s files are free to download and use.  However, they set themselves apart with exclusive mockups, typefaces, textures, and more that are designed by their own in-house team.  A bonus - their site is very easy to navigate.

Creative Fabrica

If you’ve been searching far and wide for that perfect typeface, Creative Fabrica has you covered.  Started in Amsterdam by former design studio heads, the company aims to give creatives access to the tools they need for great work at a fair price.  And with over 5000 fonts in their arsenal, in addition to graphics, you’ll have no trouble finding something useful. The site offers a mixture of paid and free resources, and designers can obtain access to their full catalog of fonts, crafts, and graphics for $29/month.

Lstore graphics

Mockups are key to helping clients realize your vision for a project, so they need to look sharp.  Istore graphics offers a variety of creative mockups, including mockups for iPhones, Androids, Macs, and more.  They even offer animated versions to make your projects really sing.  In addition to device mockups, they also provide scene mockups, allowing you to create some eye-catching imagery in no time.  And who doesn’t love that?
